James Wesley Ponder


 

James Wesley Ponder, a son of Clisby Evans Ponder and Sarah Stegall Ponder, moved from Georgetown, Williamson County, Texas to the North Tarrant County community of Double Springs in about 1884.  Along with his father, James brought his wife, Annie Carson Ponder and their three small children, Arthur, Luther, and Monte.

The family purchased a farm from Jim McCarty, payment being made with horses.  The land is known now as the Harmonson place.  Here another daughter Era, was born to the James Wesley Ponders.  When she was twenty months old, the mother died and was buried in Bourland Cemetery.

James Wesley Ponder’s second wife was Katie Benton, of Johnson County.  Five children born to this union are Verna, Ted, Addis, James and Gay.

The children of James W. Ponder and his first and second wives married as follows:

1)      Arthur married Cora Boone, daughter of John and Mary Ellen Crawford Boone.

2)      Luther never married.

3)      Monte married Thomas Washington Harrell.

4)      Era married Rice Cheatam Harris.

5)      Verna died young.

6)      Ted married Katie Dodgens.

7)      Addis never married.

8)      James (Dutch) married Elsie.

9)      Gay died in infancy.
