C.A. McCarty

C.A. McCarty was married to Mary Woods.  They came to Texas about 1872, I am sure he came earlier than that from Missouri.  At that time, Jefferson, Texas was the trading post.  His father was Enock McCarty (wife not known).  Enock was the grandson of an Irish immigrant from County Galloway, Ireland.

Mary Woods was the daughter of Arch Woods and a Witten.  Woods mother was a Miller and a sister to the Miller for whom Miller County, Missouri was named.  (We still have some relatives there.)  The Woods family were originally from Virginia, where some of the descendents still live on the Old Plantation across the river from Washington D. C.

The Wittens were also from Virginia and were English.  They came over very early, probably to Jamestown.  The English name was Whitten, they changed the name here on account of the enmity of Queen Elizabeth.

The Millers were from Virginia of a later date.
