Emberson Blevins

Emberson Blevins, born in Tarrant County on July 17, 1890, was the sixth child of Gains Taylor Blevins and Mary Caroline Matilda (Bird).

He was married on December 17, 1913, to teenage Esther L. White, born on January 29, 1897, the daughter of John Bishop White and his wife Isabella (Wise). Their ceremony was performed at the farm home of Rev. R. K. Grimes, east of Keller.

Six children born to this union are Maxine, Maurine, Lloyd R., Leslie C., Louise and Joe M. The first three of these children were born in Tarrant County while Emberson and Esther lived on the Blevins family farm southeast of Keller.

After boll weevils did severe damage to his cotton crop, Emberson decided to move to Foard County, where his friends and relatives had reported producing bumper crops of cotton and maize. In 1923, he took his family by train to a farming area near the small town of Margaret.

During this residence in Foard County, the three younger children were born. They are Leslie C., Louise and Joe M.

In December of 1938, the family returned to Keller, to the farm that had been Emberson’s childhood home.

In 1946, he began working with Tarrant County Commissioner, Mark Hovenkamp. He retired in 1952 and spent his remaining years at 118 West Olive Street in Keller. He died on August 30, 1979 and was buried in Bourland Cemetery.
