Charles Marion White


 

Charles Marion White was born at Honey Grove, Fannin County, Texas on October 31, 1858.  He was the sixth child of Confederate veteran, Andrew White, who was born on May 2, 1820 and died on December 17, 1884, and Elizabeth Sebastian White. 

Older brothers and sisters of Charles Marion were:

1)      William, born on December 27, 1848

2)      Martha, born on December 27, 1848

3)      Thomas, born on November 14 , 1851

4)      Frances, born on December 10, 1853

5)      Hiram, born on May 27, 1856.

The mother of these children died at the birth of her sixth child, Charles Marion, born on October 31, 1858.

The father’s second marriage was to Sarah Williams, who bore him three children; Lucinda, John and Mary.

The son, Charles Marion, came as a young man to the Keller community to visit his sister, Martha, the second wife of A. D. Bourland.  He found employment on the Bourland farm and was paid the current wage, which included board and lodging.

While in this home, he renewed his acquaintance with Frances Harriet (Fannie) Bourland, whom he had known as a child in Fannin County.  She was born on November 28, 1864, in Alabama and was the daughter of Elder A.D. Bourland and his first wife, Martha Ray.  Their friendship ripened into love and after a courtship of several years, they were married at the Bourland home.

Charles Marion and Fannie Bourland White established their home on a farm about three and one half miles northwest of Keller, where they reared their family and spent the remainder of the lives.  They were prosperous farmers and members of the Primitive Baptist Church.  She passed away on September 9, 1936 and he on January 7, 1937.  Both are buried in Bourland Cemetery.

Their children were:

1)      Josie White, born September 26, 1884 and died April 25, 1965.  She was married to Albert Blevins.  They had one son, Albert Blevins, who died in infancy.

2)      A. Delphus White, born June 27, 1886 and died December 29, 1886.

3)      John T. White, born March 27, 1889 and died September 25, 1961.  He was married to Vesta Whitley.  They had one daughter, Frances Nan (Rose).

4)      Eula O. White, born July 28, 1892 and died September 5, 1913.

5)      Clarence C. White, born December 12, 1896 and died December 15, 1954.  He was married to Ruth Stone and they had two sons, Charlie and Bill.

6)      Audrey F. White, born May 6, 1899 and died in 1975.  She was married to Barney Johnson.  They had two sons, Barney and Charles.

7)      Dawson White, born September 14, 1902 and died August 15, 1952.  He was married to Cora Medlin and they had one son, John Medlin White.  His second marriage was to Ima Autry.

8)      Bess M. White, born August 12, 1904 and died September 28, 1967.  She was married to Clint Blevins.

The three sons and four daughters of Charles Marion and Fannie Bourland White were graduates of the Keller High School.  The three sons were attracted by the teaching profession.

Dawson received B.S. and M.A. degrees from North Texas State Teacher’s College at Denton, Texas and taught in Argyle, Rendon and Crowley.  In later years, he established a prosperous grocery and appliance business in North Fort Worth.

Clarence also a graduate of North Texas State Teacher’s College, taught first in West Texas and later at Smithfield and at Lake Worth.  At the time of his death, he was employed at Chance-Vaught in Grand Prairie.

John T. continued his education at Cordell, Oklahoma and at Teacher’s College in Denton.  His teaching experience included schools in West Texas and in Keller, Roanoke, Smithfield and Haslet.  He also served as Tarrant County School Superintendent. Following this tenure of office, he earned a degree in law and was a practicing attorney in Fort Worth at the time of his death.
