David A. Satterwhite


 

David A. Satterwhite, a Confederate veteran, was born December 25, 1830.  He was married to Nancy Blevins, eldest child of Jonathan and Emily Blevins, born July 9, 1830.  Their wedding day was October 17, 1861.

David A. Satterwhite with his wife and children, Emily and Mary, moved from Georgia to Texas with the Blevins caravan.  The trip was made in the summer of 1869 or 1870. 

The Satterwhite family settled in the White’s Chapel community, which became their permanent home.

David A. Satterwhite died April 21, 1901 and his wife, Nancy, August 5, 1916.  Both are buried at White’s Chapel.

A well worn Bible gives the following records of the births and deaths of their seven children.

1) Susan E. born October 28, 1854.

2) John C. born October 20, 1856.

3)  Johnathan M. born September 21, 1862 in Georgia and died November 1, 1863. 

Twin infants died January 1, 1865 in Georgia

4) Emily L. born March 19, 1866 in Georgia

5) Mary E. born December 3, 1868 in Georgia and died September 14, 1873. 

6) Anna E., born October 25, 1872 in Tarrant County, Texas and died January 1930.  

7) William Albert, born October 10, 1875 in Tarrant County, Texas and died September 23, 1950.

The children of David A. and Nancy Satterwhite married as follows:

1)      Emily married William Thompson on May 1, 1884.  Vernon was their home.  Their children were: Nannie, David, Joe, Pearl, Lillian, Blanche, Ernest, Andy and Jewell.

2)      Anna E. married Andy Marcus Bourland on December 22, 1896.  Vernon was their home.  Their children were:  Tera, Fanny, Delphus and Hugh.

3)      William Albert married Emma Hodge on May 10, 1906.  Their children were William A. Jr. and Woodrow.
