Joseph Wiley Price

Joseph Wiley Price, born June 18, 1876, was the son of William Allen and Mary Felena Evans Price.  He was married November 15, 1896 to Lenora Alice McCain, born March 23, 1878, the daughter of R.I. (Doc) McCain and Elizabeth A. Fowler McCain.

Their first home was about a mile south east of Keller.  Later, they moved to a farm west of the Texas and Pacific railway station. The next move was to a two story house on a timbered hill three miles north east of Keller.

Here the children attended Mt. Gilead School.  They walked to and from each day and carried lunches in small lard buckets.  Mrs. Bates was one of the well remembered teachers.  As the children grew older, Joseph Wiley brought his family to Keller for the school term and returned to the farm during the summer months.

In addition to his farming, he was employed thirty five years as a buyer-salesman for Bewley Mills of Fort Worth.  He supervised five elevators located at Decatur, Krum, Justin, Roanoke and Keller.

In 1920, six months after the weddings of a daughter, Blanche, and a son, Oscar, the Price’s bought a two story house in Keller, from Lawson Stateham.  That house still stands at 222 South Main.  It became the permanent home of the parents and three sons, Lynn, Clyde and Wayne.  The family maintained an active interest in the First Baptist Church.

Joseph Wiley Price died August 28, 1936.  His wife, Lenora Alice, passed away July 20, 1955.  Both are buried in Bourland Cemetery.

Blanche, the first child of this family, born February 10, 1898, was married October12, 1919, to Joseph William Hanley.  Brother William Sims read the ceremony.  The bridegroom served as an ambulance driver in the armed forces during World War I.  The Hanley’s spent their honeymoon in Eastland, Texas and lived a short while in that area before establishing a home on Fifth Avenue in Fort Worth.  Joseph William Hanley Sr., veteran employee of the Texas and Pacific Railway, passed away July 31, 1949 and was buried in the Garden of Memories.  Blanche Hanley lives in the family home.  They became the parents of two sons.

1)      Joseph William Jr., a resident of Dallas, was married first to Tina Talbert and second to Barbara Franks.  Charles Lynn, who lives in Burleson, is married to Sarah Frances Cozby.

2)      Oscar Wiley, the second child, was born January 7, 1900.  On September 27, 1919, he was married to Thelma Hill, a descendent of a pioneer family in the Grapevine area.  During World War I, Oscar served with the 111th Engineers and was secretary to Major Cleveland Sammons at Camp Bowie.  In later years, he was employed by Tarrant County during the administrations of Commissioners Bill Merritt, Mark Hovenkamp and Roscoe Minton.  His next employment was as bailiff in the 67th District court.

Their home was at 120 Pearl Street.  Oscar passed away May 20, 1973.  He was buried in Bourland Cemetery.

The children of Oscar and Thelma Price are a daughter, Frances and a son, Billy, whose real name is William Allen, also the name of his great grandfather.  These two are the fifth generation of the family living in the Keller community.  Frances is the wife of C. Aubrey Anderson and is the mother of three children; Aubrey Lee, married to Linda Armstrong; Causen Wiley (Andy) married to Tanya Hovland; and Dawn was married Terry.
